Sidewalk University's Dave Picozzi and Kaan Esendemir were featured on Antigua/Barbuda Broadcasting Services (ABS TV) for teaching high school students resume writing and interviewing skills. Former Senator Colin James and Sherriann O'garro were instrumental coordinating the training with All Saints and Irene B. Williams secondary schools. The students and school administrators were appreciative to have this specialized head start training so they can compete for global jobs. Check out the news clip.

Today was a good day... $300,000 Donated! (ABAU & Sidewalk University nonprofits) In an astounding act of generosity, the owner of Jordan Taylor donated 4,000 units of his company's high end beachwear, valued at $300,000, to help fund our Antigua and Barbuda Mentoring Program. Our mentee students from All Saints and Irene B. Williams secondary schools will be taught about business and tasked to create a business plan to resell the merchandise. We'll use this opportunity to teach sales, marketing and give real-world experiences. Profits will be used to provide school supplies, scholarships and other needed funding to sustain the mentoring program. Special thanks go to the following volunteers that repackaged 4,000 donated items so they may be shipped efficiently to Antigua and Barbuda: Conrad Andy Howell, Dave Picozzi, Sherriann O'garro, Gina Philip, Danielle Philip, Will Paul, Meiah Perkins, Tambu Barnes, Dianna Thomas, Michael Looby

Congratulations to Joy Best, our Sidewalk University college scholarship award recipient. Joy is that rare individual who is highly focused, knows what she wants and is positioning herself to be an upwardly mobile leader in our community. School: Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ Class / Major: Junior working on a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Joy has an inquisitive mind. She plans to use her vibrant ideas on the invention design and creation. Her Mechanical Engineering classes are giving her the requisite skills to achieve her goals. Societies: National Society of Black Engineers, a club embracing diversity in the engineering field that’s teaching Joy networking skills. Community Service: Joy is engaged with her university and volunteers with school events. Also, she has assisted as a local shelter volunteer in Newark, NJ, and helped the Legion of Good Will by serving warm food and beverages to homeless families. Future Plans: This summer, Joy is interning as a Mechanical Engineer for IBM in New York. After graduation, she wants to take advantage of her favorite technical skills, Computer Aided Design. Gratitude: Joy is thrilled to be recognized for her academic accomplishments and have the financial support to help her achieve her goals.

Sidewalk University's FREE Online 'Get Fit & Healthy' Program. We focus on short, 30-minute total body workouts -- arms, legs, abs, cardio & strength -- led by a live, qualified instructor. We provide education and action plans for optimal health, nutrition, weight management and obesity prevention. The programs help children, families and older adults improve their well-being and mental health. Some activities include live, online weight management & nutrition / meal preparation classes, incorporating instructor led cardio & strength building workouts. In-person community interactions include Breast Cancer Awareness education and walks, Broadway shows, concerts, hiking, biking and attending various professional sporting events. We also create short, online videos that boost self-esteem by giving students a vehicle for them to share what they do well. Furthermore, our exclusive interviews with athletes, celebrities and business professional provide real-world guidance for success.

We had a luxurious breakfast with fancy cheeses, delicious coffee, thick french toast with berries, eggs & sausage and much more just before celebrating with scholarship awards, Steel Band entertainment and networking at our 16th Annual Scholarship Breakfast! We give a special 'thank you and shout-out' to our friends from the Jersey City local government, Caribbean Carnival Parade, United Parcel Service Latino BRG and Sidewalk University volunteers for making this event possible by encouraging high school students to attend college. The educational grants awarded lighten the burden of ever increasing education costs. Our scholarship recipients achieved academic excellence along with the recognition by the local community. Sidewalk University uses events like this to encourage students to do well in school, graduate and go to college. By promoting education, we create a sustainable country of contributors to society. It is a statistical fact that the crime rate is inversely proportional to the education level of the culprit. Children who grow up where the importance of education is not stressed are more likely to be living on the streets, doing drugs, joining gangs or ending up in prison. A Special Thank You to Our Volunteers & Participants! The Breast Cancer Awareness Walk was a huge success with over 150 people showing support and raising money to fight breast cancer. The Sidewalk University Economic Empowerment Conference provides an introduction to fundamentals of personal finance and economic decision-making. Topics include: setting financial and educational goals, creating a budget, managing credit, paying for college, buying a home, buying smart, and preparing for retirement through savings & investing.

264 volunteers and deserving children joined us for a beautiful, fun night game at Yankee Stadium on 6/6/2015 to see the NY Yankees play against the LA Angels. We rewarded volunteers with 'Buy 1, Get 1' free tickets so they could afford to bring their family, and even had 3 amazing free giveaways (Masahiro Tanaka Bobblehead, 2015 Yankees Yearbook, and Replica 1999 World Series Championship Ring). Essay winning students and their parents were given free tickets and t-shirts so they could experience a professional baseball game for the first time. Special thanks to the UPS Latino BRG, Morgan Stanley, Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School (Brooklyn, NY), Public School 59 (Bronx, NY), and the New York Yankees ticket sales management team for making this event a huge success.
